      APROBACION DE DON JUAN
      Baños de Velaseo y Acebedo, Chronista General
                        que fue destos Reynos de Castilla,
                                                y Leon,
      M.P.S
      Obedeciendo à V. A. he visto los libros de comedias, y
      Saynetes varios del Insigne Poeta Español Don Pedro
      Calderon de la Barca, que con gratissimo desvelo ha recogi-
      do su intimo Amigo, y mi Amigo Don Juan de Vera Tassis
      y Villarroel, cuya alabança serà siempre menor que los gran-
      des meritos de la fama que supo grangear al laborioso afan de
      sus insuperables estudios; y conformándome con el grande juy-
      zio de Plinio, puedo dezir de sus dulces, y elegantes escritos: Om-
      nia mihi tanto laudabiliora, quanto iucundiora, el tanto iucun-
      diora, quanto laudabiliora, Plin. lib. 9. epistol. 31.
y confieso
      con sincera humildad, que al ver comedias tan vtiles, y deleiy-
      tables, cobarde mi pluma solo tiene aliento para respetarlas,
      viendolas tan defendidas por sí y aprobadas de la muy docta, y
      erudita del Reverendissimo Padre Maestro Fray Manuel de
      Guerra y Rivera: vno, y otro solo me dexa lugar para la ad-
      miracion y no voz para la censura, Magna laus non abest ab
      admiratione, admiratio autem non parit verba, sed silentium.

Y asi puede V. A. conceder la licencia
      que pide Don Juan, para que logre publicar esta vtilidad comun;
      pues no tiene encuentro con el decoro de la Magestad, ni con la
      buena Política. Este es mi sentir. — Madrid, y Junio 8 1684.
